While on Instragram the other day, an especially rowdy video from Aim Shop caught my attention. The video features a 2-stroke kart absolutely ragging it around an indoor track. I was so intrigued I reached out to Aim Shop and had a chat with the team about their products. The MyChron5 really caught my eye, having seen similar devices featured on GX-UK karting videos. To get a better handle on this technology, I conducted a brief Q&A with AimShop. Enjoy!
What is the MyChron5?
The MyChron5S & the MyChron5S 2T double as both GPS lap timers & data logging dashes. It provides you with lap times, track position, RPM, temperature values, and more. Configure alarm lights for predictive, delta, or theoretical times, & organise your data with RaceStudio3.
Does it work on all types of kart?
Yes, it does: 2-stroke and 4-stroke.
What data does it provide, live and after the fact?
The MyChron provides any data that you would like to display, from RPM, speed, track position, temperature values and any sensor that you can connect. The dash will display your live data, and provide you with a summary of your entire track day post-race to analyse.
How can drivers access the data?
With RaceStudio3 you can see all your race data after your session and analyse using histograms and charts. If you pair the MyChron with a SmartyCam, you can also overlay your data with the footage you’ve recorded.
What sensors does the MyChron5 integrate with and can the data be shown on a video?
You can choose from tyre pressure sensors, braking sensors, water temperature sensors, throttle position sensors, brake and position sensors, steering angle sensors and the LCU-One Lambda Controller.
How long does it take to install?
It is a 5-minute install, and if anyone struggles we have a technician available to talk through the steps whether over the phone or via email/live chat.
Do I need a special steering wheel?
No, however, we do offer a MyChron5 steering wheel as an optional extra.
How accurate is the GPS?
Our GPS samples at 25 times per second, which is very fast!
How long do the batteries last?
The batteries last for around 6 hours of use.
What positive feedback do you most often hear about the product?
We often hear about how user-friendly our MyChron5s are, there are a lot of young karting teams who choose the MyChron5 as it is easy to get to grips with, but it isn’t limited to amateur karting as the possibilities for data analysis are endless and it is a great product all the way up to the big leagues.
