Whilton Mill International Track Guide

Fast footage

The Dry lap you are going to see came from my final BUKC Drivers Championship event as a student, a weekend I’d sorely chop your arm off to be able to relive.

Date: April, 2019
Conditions: Dry
Type of video: Voice over hot lap
Lap time: 55.15
Camera: GoPro Hero 2

Driver notes

Preferred overtaking spots:
Overtaking is easiest into Christmas. Ashby presents a chance and so does the boot, but you gotta be brave on the brakes and have a good run.

Curb your enthusiasm
Championship Bend (the last corner) now has the worst most irritating kerb in all of Karting, so you can’t take it like I do in this video. I have heard the corner and main straight are going to be entirely re-profiled soon, will be interesting to see.

Full send?
Turns 1 and 2 are daunting to newcomers when you hear some silly old fart in a custom Green Helmet tells you, “you can do it flat,” but there is a way through it, and once you find the line, its one of the best sequences in UK Karting.

Kart review:

The kart used here are Club 100 2 Stroke Rotax Max. These Karts are technically rental karts, but don’t let that fool you, these are some of the best Karts available for mere mortals to drive. The power is one thing, the cornering and braking though is where these karts come into their own. Not every Kart is the same, some are better than others, but when you get that better one and it does everything you want it to merely by thought, you are truly experiencing one of the great Karting moments!

Value for money:

BUKC was and I believe still is better value than Club100. The Club 100 racing I do these days costs £260 a go, and thats after paying the £15 deposit! BUKC is more like £160. So if you're heading off to University soon and want to get your adrenaline filled fix of racing, still probably best to ask your Dad to help you out paying for it!
