What to wear on a go karting date in London
Go karting is a fun date whether you’re a lad looking to seduce a lady, or a femme fatale out to dominate anyone in your path. But after you have located the best “go karting near me,” what do you wear? And realistically, will you come out the other side looking fresh and smelling of roses, or jaded, wind-swept and dehydrated?
General clothing tips
You will be provided with a racesuit (or overalls). If you're heading straight from work, versatile clothing like jeans and a tee works well under the provided race suit. Ladies, if you're in a dress, switch to yoga pants or leggings for comfort and flexibility.
The best shoes for karting
The track won’t provide you with actually karting shoes, so you’ll need to wear the best match in your wardrobe. Opt for closed-toe shoes with thin soles for the best pedal feel and control – think along the lines of Converse Chuck Taylors. These types of shoes enhance your connection with the kart, allowing for precise acceleration and braking.
For women, it's particularly important to avoid open-toed shoes and definitely steer clear of heels-you won’t be allowed near a kart wearing them. Comfortable, flat-soled shoes ensure a safe and enjoyable karting session, letting you focus on the thrill of the race without any footwear woes.
Hair and headgear
All "go karting London" tracks will offer helmets in a range of sizes. You have to wear a helmet. You’ll likely need to wear a thin balaclava too, to help keep the helmet clean. If you have long hair, make sure it's tied back securely.
Gloves
While not always required, gloves should be always required! They offer a better grip on the steering wheel, protect your hands from blisters, and keep you clean. Most tracks don’t offer proper racing gloves, so if you have some medium thickness gloves (think cycling gloves), then you’ll probably be allowed to use them.
Minimal accessories
It's best to leave bulky accessories at home. Jewelry, watches, or dangling items can be hazardous or may get damaged. But what about part 2 of the date? Fear not, most tracks have lockers, so you can get your bling on before you go back out.
Weather-appropriate gear
Many, but not all, London-based karting tracks are indoors. However, as you near the M25, you will find outdoor venues. This could make your session cold or hot, wet or dry.
If it’s cold, wear a base layer - like what you might have under a ski suit.
If it’s, a tee and boxers / thin leggings will do the trick.
If it’s wet… Bring a change of clothes.
Will I smell afterwards?
Post-race, you might carry the scent of adventure (and maybe a bit of sweat). If you're indoors, you might pick up some petrol fumes too. But fret not, a quick freshen-up can have you ready for part two of your date. Most tracks offer facilities where you can change and store your race gear.
